Imphal, July 12 2018:
Following the meeting with Chief Minister N Biren at his office chamber for over 3 hours yesterday on Border Pillar number 81 near Kwatha Khunou, the United Committee, Manipur has lined up a one day public convention on the disputed Indo-Myanmar border pillars along Manipur boundary on July 16 at GM Hall from 11 am.
Appealing the people to attend the one day convention, UCM in a statement said that during the meeting yesterday, it was made clear to the Chief Minister that a close study of all the border pillars with experts from the Survey of India is the need of the hour to ensure that the territory of Manipur remains intact.
Responding to the case put up by the UCM, the Chief Minister also got in touch with New Delhi and assured the UCM team that he will personally go to Delhi to present the case of the people and let a team from the Survey of India come to the border and inspect the existing border pillars.
The UCM team also made it clear that there is the need to go by the boundary agreement effected in 1967 and pointed out that even though this agreement has been inked, erecting boundary pillars on the basis of the agreement is yet to be finalised.
It is the delay in erecting the boundary pillars on the basis of the 1967 agreement which has led to the present controversy, added UCM.
There is also the need to once again go through all the articles included in the boundary agreement of 1967, added UCM.
There is also the need to settle all points with regard to Border Pillar number 76, the UCM team conveyed to the Chief Minister while recalling that it was at the border pillar that Myanmar army had intruded into and put up a fencing and burnt down a saw mill some time back.
