Education Minister Dr Th Radheshyam called on the Education Minister of Nagaland, Temjen Imna Along, at Kohima today and discussed the managerial and administrative challenges of the Sainik Schools of the country, particularly in the North East States.
The Ministers had a common point to understand the social, political and financial issues facing the people of the NE States in the education sector.
During the discussion, it was decided that the Education Ministers of Manipur and Nagaland would jointly host a conclave for all the Education Ministers of the region in an attempt to comprehend the challenges in the education sector, with an objective of finding a modality to address the shortcomings collectively.
Radheshyam stated that there are many common issues in the region, including the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir, which requires special attention so as to bring the level of educational institutions at par with other bigger States of the Nation.
Radheshyam, who called on the Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio yesterday and highlighted the grievous financial difficulties of the small States in providing adequate infrastructure for the Sainik schools and the scholarship for the cadets, also met the Education Advisor of Nagaland, KT Sukhalu.
Appreciating the initiatives of Radheshyam for bringing out relevant issues during the Board of Governors of Sainik School meeting held at New Delhi recently, Rio assured to extend all possible help to organise the conclave.
Neiphiu Rio also assured that he would write personal letters to all the Chief Ministers of the North East so that the Central leadership can be collectively apprised of the prevailing unrest and the geographical terrains.
He also endorsed Radheshyam's suggestion to seek a one time grant for the construction of basic infrastructure including administrative blocks, dormitory for cadets and quarters for the administrative and academic staff of Sainik Schools.
"All the Sainik Schools in the North East States face financial problems and the Union Ministry of Defence should own up the responsibility for the existing Sainik Schools, which is about 30 in number," Rio stated.
While returning from Nagaland, Radheshyam visited Willong High School, Sangkhunglung LP School, Maram Khullen High School and Maram Bazar UJB School.
During the visit, the Minister was accompanied by District Council Member Lairouching L Thomas Luba, District Council Member Willong, L Rangpung John, ASPD Samagra Shiksha Manipur, T Phullen, officials and Maram Area leaders.
