Imphal, January 07 2016:
Please refer to the article "They
think they can do whatever they
want - SC Urges Centre to
prosecute troops for killings"
(The Sangai Express,
November 29), we regret republication
of the article
published by the Mail Today
under the heading, "Forces
under SC fire over fake
killings".
It has come to our notice
that the said articles contain
factually inaccurate statements
attributed to the Hon'ble Supreme
Court and the Attorney
General of India.
It has further
come to our notice that
the Supreme Court has made
no order in relation to the
prosecution of army personnel.
We also affirm the
apology/corrigendum published
by the Mail Today
dated December 11, 2015 in
which it was stated that the
statement attributed to the Attorney
General that "some
accidental death may happen"
during counter-insurgency operations
by the security forces
in the Northeast is inaccurate".
We had no intention to
misreport Court proceedings.
We sincerely express regret
and apologise to the Supreme
Court and the Attorney General.
