Imphal, September 03 2016:
Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) has urged the State Government to send detailed reports of the ongoing land dispute between India and Myanmar for the upcoming Director level meeting scheduled to be held at Dehradun from September 5 to 7 .
In an interaction with media persons today at their office located at Khurai Lamlong Thongkhong, president of ICHAM N Rajendro @ Boy said, ICHAM has learnt that the Surveyor General of India, in recognising the works of ICHAM on guarding the border area, has asked the Govt of Manipur to send a detailed report of the land dispute between India and Myanmar.
The Survey of India will conduct a Director level meeting to solve the ongoing land issue between India and Myanmar.
In the scheduled meeting, the State Govt should send the detailed reports of the various areas where border fencing has affected the traditional boundary of Manipur, he said.
ICHAM on Feb 26 this year sent a detailed report to the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and the then convener of the All Political Party, MLA RK Anand where the ancestral land of Manipur has been occupied by neighbouring Myanmar on the pretext of border fencing, he said.
Citing certain examples where large stretches of land have been lost to Myanmar, he said, in Holenphai having border pillar (BP) number 78, about two kilometres of land have been lost as the new border pillar was constructed within the Indian (Manipur's) territory.
The situation is the same at Kwatha Khunou BP- 81, Satang Laibi BP-82, Wakshu Chatong BP-84, Moirangthel/ Chairangphai BP-87 to 88 and Z Choro BP-5, 6 and 7, he added.
The border fencing has largely affected the border villages of the State and the State Govt should take the right steps to save the territory of Manipur.
He further urged the State Govt to send a representative to take part in the said Director level meeting scheduled to be held at Dehradun from Sept 5 to 7 .
He also said that ICHAM will continue to work to bring out detailed reports and bring out evidence that large stretches of land have been lost in the border fencing works.
