Imphal, July 20:
Acting on a PIL filed by the chief of Tuyang village and Secretary of the Village Committee on February 20 this year, the Gauhati High Court has directed that the enquiry report prepared by a senior police officer after enquiring into allegation against AR excesses in Tuyang village in Chandel district be made available to contesting counsels of the case.
The order passed yesterday by Justices T Nandakumar and Mutum Binoykumar also asked the State Government to file its counter affidavits after obtaining the probe reports.
The Court has fixed final hearing of the case after four weeks, said advocate Paikhomba appearing on behalf of the PIL petitioners.
The PIL contended that personnel of 16 Assam Rifles forced the villagers to do manual work in addition to assaulting the villagers physically.
While the villagers were prohibited from tending their fields, 16 AR personnel used them as forced labourers at their camp without any payment, it asserted.
The AR personnel were also accused of planting land mines in narrow footpaths used by the villagers.
