MPP lashes both BJP, Cong

Imphal, March 30 2019: Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) has slammed both the Congress and the BJP, claiming that it is high time for the people of Manipur to teach a befitting lesson to the two parties.

Speaking to media persons at MPP office at Mapal Kangjeibung today, the party's candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency O Jugindro said that it has been long since MPP contested the Parliamentary election and added that if the party remained silent there would not be any end to the misfortunes and multiple issues surrounding the State.

Taking this factor into consideration and with firm belief in regionalism, MPP resolved to contest the Parliamentary election during its foundation day held on December 26 last year, he added.

Pointing out that MPP was established on December 26, 1968, O Jugindro said that the main aim of the party is safeguarding the integrity of the State, protection of the indigenous people, cultures and traditions of the State etc.

He continued that when MPP ruled the State in 1972, there were many positive developments in Manipur and questioned what changes did the Congress brought during its long rule in the State and the country.

Congress gave away Kabaw Valley to Myanmar, removed ILPS from the State in 1950 and brought division among the hills and valley of the State by bringing MLR&LR Act in 1960, Jugindro said.

The Congress imposed AFSPA 1958 in the State in 1980 and in the process many innocent people lost their lives in fake encounters.

In 1995, then Congress Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao began the peace talk with NSCN-IM in Paris.

On the other hand, turning to BJP, Jugindro claimed that due to the inclusion of the words 'without any territorial limits' in the Bangkok Declaration of June 15, 2001, between the BJP led NDA Government and NSCN-IM, Manipur went up in flames and 18 people were martyred.

Jugindro continued that recently, the State as well as the entire North East region experienced a great turmoil over the issue of Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 after it was passed in the Lok Sabha by the NDA Government on January 8 .

He claimed thaat the Bill was not produced in the Rajya Sabha ultimately, because the BJP realised that the Narendra Modi Government will not be able to return again.

It was not produced before the Rajya Sabha not because of any care or love for the people of the North East or Manipur, he alleged adding that this is proved by Amit Shah's statement during a public meeting in Assam that CAB will be reintroduced if the BJP comes back to power.

A such, Jugindro appealed to the people to vote for MPP which was established in the soil of Manipur and which works for the people.

On the other hand, M Amutombi, advisor of MPP, lauded late party MP Yumnam Yaima who became an MP from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in 1981 for his contribution for the people of Manipur. He then informed that on March 26, ECI sent an official letter recognising the party and it also approved bicycle as the party's symbol.

He also appealed to the people of the State to cast their votes for O Jugindro in the coming election.
