Imphal, January 22, 2012:
A one day discussion for providing 4.5% reservation to the Meetei Sanamahi followers, which the state government has reserved for the minorities of the state, was held at Uripok Laikhulembi Community Hall today.
The discussion function was graced by Ayekpam Tomba, Padmashri, Advocate S Shyamcharan, President of All Manipur Bar Association and Advocate Angomcha Araba as the Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Advocate S Shyamcharan said that the people of the state are still fighting among themselves regarding the difference in the term Meetei and Meitei.
The argument should be stopped once and for all.
If this continues unabated, there are apprehensions that all our customs, traditions and our language and scripts will disappear one day.
He further said that if we continue to follow other religions forgetting our own and desist ourselves from all the reservations provided by the Central government as a follower of Meetei Sanamahi, our community will also cease to exist.
So we should all try to get the benefit of the 4.5 reservation as given by the Central government for the minority sections.
The discussion also took a number of resolutions in favour of the Sanamahi followers.
