Dimapur, May 19 2013:
The Indigenous Women Forum of North East India said to that it is dumbstruck by the shocking triple-murder incident of Bor-Lengri at Karbi Anglong, Assam on May 16, in which a young Naga family was killed in a most heinous manner that needs no repetition and which was widely publicized and condemned by cross-section of the society.
While condemning the incident in the strongest terms, the Forum said, "We as indigenous mothers of the North East, are deeply saddened and concerned and are at a lost to think what could have gone wrong with our society that have been respected and admired by others for our simplicity, hospitality and honesty with courage to overcome any problems through indigenous cultures and traditional practices, which other people saw and respected as a very pure form of a democratic society" .
"While everybody and even Governments and law-enforcing authorities are condemning these heinous crimes that are increasing by the days, the fact that no exemplary legal action have been taken or shown that merits recognition against such perpetrators, has only further emboldened and encouraged criminal elements of the worse order to continue holding the society at ransom with no compunction at all," the Forum stated.
The North East based women forum then appealed to all law-enforcing authorities as well as traditional and local community organizations and tribal bodies to prove their worth to their society and their women and children that good can still prevail over bad by doing the utmost possible and necessary to deliver justice to the poor victims and so also the society, which has already suffered more than its share of tolerance, owing to insufficient acting and non-delivering social and administrative justice system.
