Increase MBBS seats at JNIMS, say parents of NEET qualified candidates

Parents and guardians of NEET (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) qualified candidates have appealed the State Government to increase the number of MBBS seats at JNIMS by 50 from the coming session.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, M Sonolata, on behalf of the parents and guardians of the NEET qualified candidates urged the State Government to issue an order for increasing the MBBS seats at JNIMS before the commencement of the NEET counselling slated to be held on November 25.She said may of the NEET qualified candidates in the State dejected as they cannot pursue MBBS course in the State owing to low intake capacity at JNIMS and RIMS.
She further maintained that out of the total 225 MBBS seats available at RIMS and JNIMS, only 115 seats have been reserved for State candidates.
Asserting that the Central Government has sanctioned for increasing 50 more MBBS seats at JNIMS some years back, Sonolata decried that the State Government has been deferring the matter of revamping MBBS seats at the institute till today.
She added that many other States have already increased the number of MBBS seats to great extent following the Central Government's approval.
While noting that the number of NEET qualified candidates in the State have been increasing every year, Sonolata went on to say that here is an utmost need for enhancing the intake capacity at the two institutes, JNIMS and RIMS.
