Mass protest rally at Chandel denounces 'police atrocity', demands release of five arrested

Denouncing the alleged atrocity of Tengnoupal Police and Thoubal Police Commando recently at Vomku Village and MACA Hall and demanding safe release of five villagers of Darchol village including its chief, volunteers of Anal Land Jury Board (ALJB) and several sympathisers took out mass rally at Chandel District Headquarters and submitted memorandum to the Governor via Chandel DC, today.
During the protest rally, various placards that read "Stop harassing Vomku-Darchol villagers", "We want our Constitutional rights", "Stop using excessive power Tengnoupal Police", "We want customary law", "We condemn Thoubal commando", "We want peaceful solution", "We want safe release of innocent arrested villagers" etc were used by the protesters.
The memorandum signed by Annalon Chief Association, president SNG Lumdil, Anal Naga Students Union Chandel, president, RL Elly, Anal Land Jury Board, vice chairman, WNG Kohring Victor and secretary Pashel Kingson urged the Governor to take up necessary action against the Tengnoupal police personnel who were involved in 'vandalising private property' on June 23 and 26 at Vomku Village and provide proper compensation for the loss by July 12.The memorandum further urged the authority concerned to release the 5 villagers of Darchol village including its chief without any conditions attached and also stop "atrocity" by police personnel at Vomkum-Darchol village at the earliest.
The protesters split from DC Office Complex after Chandel DC assured to hand over the memorandum to the Governor.
Speaking to media persons before taking out the rally, ALJB vice chairman, WNG Kohring Victor said that more intense agitation including shutting down of all offices at Chandel and Chakpikarong sub-division will be launched if the demands are not met by July 12 .
