Saikhom Menjor's 'Ancient History of Thoubal' released

Imphal, March 04 2012:
A book entitled 'Ancient History of Thoubal' written by Saikhom Menjor was released at a formal function held at the premises of the Royal Institute of Resonance Education, Nawa Sindam Sang, Thoubal Kshetri Leikai today.
The book is published by the author himself with financial assistance from National Archives of India, New Delhi, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
The book releasing function was graced by Dr K Sushila, Deputy Director, Manipur State Archives and Thokchom Chandra, Chief Patron, Manipur Sahitya Samiti, Thoubal as Chief Guest and President respectively.
The book deals with the origin of the old settlers or the aborigines of Thoubal and the migration theories.
The relations among the different groups of old settlers of Manipur with special reference to Thoubal area are also described in detail.
It also highlights the climatic conditions and topographical situation of Thoubal and their relations with other Salais (clans ) like Meiteis, Moirangs and Angoms.
On the other hand, two books entitled 'In This Journey of Life' and 'Sojourn' written in Manipuri by Yengkhom Indira and translated into English by Bhavendra Longjam were released at Manipur Press Club today.
Organised by Patriotic Writers' Forum, Manipur, the book releasing function was attended by Prof Elangbam Dinamani and Sagolshem Indrakumar, President, Patriotic Writers Forum as Chiwef Guest and President respectively.
Book reviewer, Dr Th Ibohanbi and Reader, DM College of Arts Dr M Priyobratta were present as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr M Priyobratta said that translation of books written in one language into another language is also a part of globalization.
But the trend of translation in our society is very slow.
We not only need to write and publish books in our own language, but also translate them into English and other internationally known languages.
This would help in popularizing and developing Manipuri literature and made it known to the outside world.
Another book of poems entitled 'Khongel' written by Ibungomacha Ningomba was also released in Manipur Press Club today.
The function which was organised by Nongchup Haram Khorjei Lup, Yurembam was graced by Dr Saratchandra Longjam, Kunjo Ningombam and Moirangthem Rajendra as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
