Govt sets eye on completing Performing Arts Centre soon

Construction work on the Manipur Performing Arts Centre, Gurgaon is expected to be completed soon as the Government of Manipur has approved formation of a committee with Chief Secretary as Chairman ensuring speedy progress of the work.
The Centre is being constructed over the land provided by Haryana Urban Development Authority.
According to an official source, Haryana Urban Development Authority provided 4.25 acres land to Manipur government for establishment of an institutional area for Manipuri performing arts at Sector 18 of Gurgaon in 1990 .
Subsequently, the State PWD began constructions of boundary wall, tube wells, approach road, open hall, Dormitory Park, Toilet Block, kitchen, sewerage and Type 2 quarters.
The Centre will also have an auditorium which can accommodate 400 people, apart from guest house, dormitories, Administrative Block, staff quarters of 20 to 30 staff, canteen and other areas where traditional arts form and occasions of Manipur can be celebrated within its premises.
Unfortunately, the state government did not have a proper action plan to develop the Centre to a standard Centre.
It is the main reason behind the formation of the committee which will help in making an action plan, the source disclosed.
While the Chief Secretary will be heading the committee, Principal Secretary (Works), Finance Commissioner, Arts and Culture Commissioner and GAD Commissioner will be its members, the source informed, adding that there is high possibility of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's Power and Infrastructure Advisor Journal Singh being included as special invitee in the committee.
After reviewing the Rules and Regulation of land allotment of Haryana and Haryana Urban Development Authority, the committee will recommend whether the construction work will be hand over to CPWD, PWD or to a private firm on PPP model.
Meanwhile, the state government has given its approval to construction of a VVIP Guest House to solve the problem of lack of a secured guest house for VVIP guests visiting the state.
In this regard, a committee has also been formed with Chief Secretary as Chairman and Principal Secretary (Works), Commissioner (Finance) and Commissioner (GAD) as members.
At present, the state government is facing the problem of accommodating visiting guests since the existing Guest House at Sanjenthing can only accommodate four persons at one time.
With increasing possibilities of VVIPs like President, Vice President, Prime Minister and Union Ministers visiting Manipur in connection with implementation of Look East Policy, construction of a fool-proof secured Guest House has become necessary, the source added.
