Imphal, May 02 2020:
Appealing all to join the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, ex-MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Assembly Constituency RK Anand stated that he had started providing 4 kgs of rice at free of cost to households in his Constituency since yesterday to help people cope with the hardship presented by the lockdown.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at his residence at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai today, RK Anand applauded the State Government for understanding the gravity of COVID threat and taking pre-emptive tactic to contain the virus.
Saying that there are no more cases of the disease in the State, the ex-MLA appealed the public to follow guidelines given by experts and the Government to maintain the status quo.
Identifying Manipur as green zone doesn't necessarily mean that that the State has become corona free zone, considering that cases of COVID-19 continue to report from neighbouring States and Myanmar, RK Anand pointed out.
About the rice distribution, the ex-MLA cited that the rice was bought from the Government at Rs 22.50 per kilo from his pension amount of 1 year.
Lamenting that many doners also donated for the cause, RK Anand said that 4 kgs of rice will be given to each household in Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC phase-wise.
Saying that rice meant for NFSA cardholders are given to voters only in the Constituency, the ex MLA asked if people below 18 years don't need food for survival.
Approximately 1,57,337 kilos of rice were allocated for the Constituency under different schemes.
Not giving rice to beneficiaries at such trying time is an attack on the fundamental rights of human being, RK Anand asserted.
Urging the Government to look into the matter, he also expressed desire for the district administration concerned to furnish a white paper for the rice allocation.
He also appreciated all who have donated to the relief fund formed under his guidance.
