CCpur, May 02 2020:
Around 318 people from the neighbouring State of Mizoram, stranded at Churachandpur due to the lockdown, have returned in batches to their State on Thursday and Friday.
The ban on inter-State movement along the Mizoram-Manipur border was briefly lifted to ensure the passage of the stranded travellers after Governments from both the States worked out the modalities, sources said.
On Thursday, the first batch comprising of 252 people left the district after local heath authorities here conducted thermal screening of each and every individual while local police verified their details.
The group that moved on their private vehicles will be taken directly to a designated quarantine centre on reaching their native State while the second batch comprising of 137 people including a minor were shifted on Friday to the State border in 23 Tata Sumos and one taxi.
They are to board a State transport bus arranged by Mizoram Government on entering their State.
The groups, sources said, will mandatorily spend 14 days in quarantine centres before they are allowed to go home.
Besides the people who have already returned to their State, there are about 140 others from Mizoram who still await a green signal from the Government for their turn to return home.
