The Roots Festival, 2008, the 6th edition of the musical tour of the North East region, would kick off at Imphal here from tomorrow.
Being organised with the main purpose of providing a common plaftorm for the International, National and regional artistes, the 21-day long musical tour would witness the performances of original musics by Dub LFO from Israel, Too Late Lucy from England, Warklung from Diphu of Assam and Guru Reuben Mashangba from Ukhrul district of Manipur among other notable artistes.
The tour is being presented by Brylcreem and Spring Board Surprises of Shillong.
The Imphal leg of the musical extravanga is being hosted jointly by the Manipur Tourism Department and the Folk Art and Cultural Guild.
The Roots Festival was first organised by the Spring Board Surprises at Shillong in 2003 on a small scale.
Since then its popularity has been gaining as the most sought after musical event of the whole North East along with featuring of more and more International, National and Regional artistes.
Addressing a press conference in connection with the musical tour, founder and CEO of Spring Board Surprises Keith Wallang said that the festival is being organised to spread the message of peace and brotherhood among the people and inspire the youngsters to contribute their mite in promotion of culture.
Local co-ordinator of the festival and leader of Folk Art and Cultural Guild Momo Laishram said local artistes would share the stage with International and National artistes in giving their performances.
As part of the musical festival, a musical workshop would be facilitated along with the participation of the tour arsistes at Imphal Hotel tomorrow.
He appealed to all the music lovers of the State to come and participate in the said workshop.
