Imphal, May 02:
Decrying monetary demand of a UG group which has led to interruption of the passenger bus service between Takhel and Imphal, a large number of people mostly women staged a Wakat Meepham at Takhel Panthoibi Bazar appealing to the UG group to withdraw its demand and allow continuation of the service in the interest of the people.
Placards with slogans like 'Don't cause any more suffering to the people', 'Withdraw the demand in public interest', 'Bring an amicable solution between the two parties', 'Let the people be enlightened on the true goal of the UG groups', etc were used during the protest demonstration jointly organised by Takhel Apunba Meira Paibi, Tusemphai Meira Paibi and Kangluchingjin Khunou Meira Paibi bodies.
According to the protestors, there five buses in service along the said route.
However, the buses have stopped their services since April 29 following the threat of the UG group not to ply if each of the buses cannot give Rs 5000 as taxes annually to it.
While urging for bringing about amicable solution between the two parties and the impasse, the protestors made it clear that people of Takhel area would themselves arrange the required security for the buses to carry on service in case of failure of resolving the matter at the earliest possible besides launching various intense agitations along with local clubs.
