Imphal, January 23 2013:
Offering of seasonal fruits/vegetables at individual homes and locality level rituals marked Imoinu religious celebration associated with the majority Meitei community in the state.
While the main rituals were performed at Kangla Uttra under the aegis of Kangla Religious Committee, well decorated imoinu deities were put up at various localities of the valley pockets to mark the occasion.
Offerings are made to Imoinu deity on the 12th day of Wakching month in the Meitei calendar to seek blessing for food sufficiency for the season and well-being of the people.
At kangla Uttra religious leaders played Pena, a traditional musical instrument, and read scriptures on Imoinu deity.
Homes of the Meitei people were also illuminated as a part of the celebration.
