CorCom bomb attack kills worker of I Hemochandra
Five including four gym players injured

Imphal, January 22, 2012:
The CorCom bomb attacks on Congress candidates and workers claimed its first fatality today.
One person was killed and 5 others including four gym players were injured when a powerful bomb exploded near the gate of I Hemochandra, Speaker, Manipur Legislative Assembly, who is also a candidate of the Indian National Congress in Singjamei A/C.Meanwhile, CorCom has claimed responsibility for the bomb attack in line with the warning which the conglomerate of the 7 UG groups has placed before the Congress candidates and its workers.
CorCom further claimed that the person who had planted the bomb near the gate of I Hemochandra at Singjamei Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai has returned to its camp safe and sound.
CorCom also expressed regret and sorrow over the death of an innocent person in the bomb attack, however the party asserted that it had warned the people of the state not to get close to Congress candidates and also to refrain from campaigning for the Congress party.
It further appealed to the people to stay away from the Congress.
The bomb attack was carried out at around 6:20 pm today near the gate of Speaker I Hemochandra at Singjamei Chingamakha Kshetri Leikai.
The remote triggered IED was planted near the Urinal constructed about 15 feet south to his gate.
The person killed in the incident has been identified as one Maisnam Ratan (37) s/o late M Ibotombi of Chingamakha Maisnam Leikai.
He is survived by his wife a daughter and a son.
The injured are identified as RK Phillips (21) s/o RK Tompisak of Singjamei Chingamathak, Pebam Johnson (26) s/o P Jadumani of Singjamei Thongam Leikai, Naorem Pari (18) s/o N Nimai, Konthoujam Sunil (24) s/o K Mohindro of Singjamei Naorem Leikai and Johnson of Singjamei Bamon Leikai.
The injured gym players belong to Lainingthou Pangamba Gym, Singjamei Thongam Leikai.
They have been admitted to JNIMS where their conditions are declared to be out of danger.
The impact of the bomb threw Maisnam Ratan into a drain, few feet away the Urinal.According to eyewitnesses, as soon as Ratan went inside the urinal, the IED went off.
Police source said that the IED might have been planted there taking advantage of the dark and exploded through a remote control from a safe place.
Soon after the bomb exploded, the security guards deployed at the gate of I Hemochandra fired around 15 rounds.
But there was no report of the miscreant being injured.
At the time of the bomb blast, Speaker I Hemochandra was not at home.
He was out campaigning.
He rushed to the spot as soon as he heard the news.
Condemning the act, I Hemochandra said that hurling and exploding of bombs and killing innocent people is a cowardly act.
Acts of terror cannot undermined the democratic process, he said.
Meanwhile, no one including media persons were allowed to enter the spot on the apprehension that there was another bomb for about an hour.
There were apprehensions that the pocket of the deceased contained a bomb like substance and no one was allowed to go near the deceased.
Later after confirming that there was no bomb, the deceased was taken to RIMS morgue.
The Imphal West Police Commandos rushed to the spot after the blast.
They searched the nearby houses of I Hemochandra but no one was reported to have been arrested so far.
In another incident, a bomb went off at the house of one Ningombam Brojen (52) of Thoubal Ningombam Mayai Leikai around 1 am today.
The miscreants who hurled the bomb also fired a number of gun shots at his place.
No one was hurt in the incident.
A few minutes later another bomb was hurled at the residence of one Ningombam Rajen of Thoubal Ningombam Mayai Leikai which exploded.
The miscreants also fired two/three rounds of gunshots at his place.
No one was hurt in the incident although the tin gate was damaged by the impact of the blast.
In yet another incident, unidentified miscreants fired around 3/4 rounds of gunshots at the house of one Konjengbam Rabichandra (45) s/o K Dhananjoy and also at the house of one Moirangthem Achoubi (48), both residents of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai around 2:30 am today.
The miscreants also shouted that the attack was their last warning.
A sit-in-protest was staged at Kongba Nandeibam Leikai today, protesting against the act.
