Govt lines up several projects, specially in hills

The State Government has been planning to take up a number of projects, specially in hill districts with Rs 300 crore sanctioned under Central Plan Scheme as a one time special assistance .
The same amount has already been reflected in the State budget for 2017-18.As such, the State Government has in its hands 50 per cent of the total costs of the projects to be taken up .
With this amount of Rs 300 crore which would be invested as a one time special assistance, the Government is planning to take up two water harvesting projects each in Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel and Tamenglong districts under Minor Irrigation Department.
The total estimated costs of these projects is Rs 20 crore, informed a source .
The Central Plan Scheme of Rs 300 crore is also inclusive of Rs 60 crore for upgrading road infrastructure in both the hills and the valley .
Another Rs 15 crore has been earmarked for flood control and anti-erosion scheme .
Construction of women market complexes at seven district headquarters namely; Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi and Jiribam at the rate of Rs 10 crore per market complex is another project enlisted under the scheme .
Transit quarters for doctors posted in hill areas would be constructed at five hill district headquarters at the rate of Rs 10 crore per transit quarters.
The total estimated cost of this project is Rs 50 crore .
Construction of model schools in five hill districts at the total estimated cost of Rs 20 crore at the rate of Rs four crore per school is another project being planned by the State Government under the same Central Plan Scheme .
While Rs 40 crore has been earmarked for installation of flood lighting systems at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex and Luwangshangbam Cricket Stadium, another Rs 10 crore has been set aside for construction of a mini-sports complex at SEEYO, Akampat .
The same scheme further incorporates a sum of Rs 5 crore for completion of Ukhrul district headquarters' 100-bedded hospital .
As 50 per cent of the total estimated cost of these projects have been sanctioned, execution of these projects may start any time, informed the source .
Meanwhile, due arrangements are being made for a review meeting about these projects tomorrow at the Chief Minister's Secretariat with Chief Minister N Biren in the chair, added the source.
