Moreh, April 15 2015 :
A 12-day long "Manipur fire service week" kick-started at the Hill Tribal Council Moreh (HTCM) office premises organized by Moreh Fire Service at Moreh in Chandel district.
At the inaugural function, Moreh Fire Service Officer-in-Charge M Ranjit spoke on various safety measures to be taken up by people during fire and also other necessary steps to avoid fire.
Ranjit pointed out that narrow road, bridges and lanes in Moreh were a great hamper to entry of heavy vehicles into the town and hence a lot of time was taken by fire tenders to reach a fire site.
He suggested that clearing of jungle area up to 100 metres from the surrounding areas of every village would help stop wildfire from spreading to the houses nearby.
The fire officer said that water tank constructed in front of the Moreh Fire Service complex would now save the time lost in fetching water from Lokchao river and Leirok river during emergency.
During the function, attended by presidents and secretary members of all units of HTCM, firemen also demonstrated various equipments of Moreh Fire Service.
The HTCM members lauded the town fire service and urged the Government to renovate all Government office buildings including that of the fire service in the town.
