Lamka, March 06 2013:
Members of All Tribal Disable Union Manipur (ATDUM) and the local district disable union have visited the ongoing mini-secretariat at Churachandpur today to obtain a first-hand account on whether the Government had incorporated the demand they made during the last World Disable Day.
ATDUM along with Churachandpur District Disable Union (CCDU) had on the last World Disable day visited the mini-secretariat and demanded that it was made disable friendly for their conveniences.
They have claimed that the demand was made before the government through a written memo, but the engineers working on the ground have told the visiting disabled members and the media that they have so far received no instructions for the same.
Having missed the opportunity to incorporate the same facilities in the mini-secretariats that have already been completed, the ATDUM along with the CDDU has been lobbying for a disable friendly version for the Churachandpur mini-secretariat, which was ongoing and incorporating their demand is still a possibility.
Visiting ATDUM members have cited the PWD Act, 1995 and contended that even without the instruction from the government; the engineers are bound to comply with its provisions.
Nevertheless they have announced that the matter will be taken to the court where they pledge to fight to the finish.
