Imphal, July 01 2011:
A joint statement of Gunpi Area Kuki Chiefs' Association (GAKCA) and Gunpi Area Kuki Women Human Rights Assn (GAKWHRA) of Chandel district has expressed strong resentment at the surprise entry of a combined team of "Indian security forces" and Kuki National Army (KNA) into Nazareth village on the night of June 26 by terming it as "illegal" and "unfortunate" and violating human rights and has asked the concerned authorities of both the security forces and the underground outfit to initiate stern action against the erring intruders who reportedly ransacked a house an pillaged a villager.
"The unwanted and illegal entry of Indian security forces in collaboration and connivance with some KNA cadres on June 26 at around 7:30 pm into Nazareth was very unfortunate," said a statement signed, among others, by GAKCA Chandel secretary John D Lhungdim .
The combined team of security forces and KNA had reportedly ransacked the house of Thangjamang Guite s/o Tohkhojang Guite of Nazareth village in Chandel district of Manipur on the night of June 26 and confiscated from him one each of Kuki traditional knife, torchlight, long pant, jacket, mobile handset and T shirt.
The statement said that the village chief should have been informed, if not the commander of Assam Rifles posted in Sugnu, of the impending entry into the village.
"It is a clear violation (of human rights) on the part of the security forces and the KNA," it stated.
"Neither any incriminating document nor any arm were recovered at all (from the house of T Guite)," the statement added while alleging that "the cruel incident that took place on the night of June 26 was triggered and initiated under the leadership of Jetlee who deserted KNA and joined United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) but again betrayed UKLF to return to his parent organization KNA" .
"The KNA deserters whom we keep under our custody had clearly narrated their woes and requested us to protect their precious lives, which was why we permitted them to be one of us," it further stated.
