Bar Association elects new office bearers

Imphal, April 30 2011:
The new office bearers of High Court Bar Association, Manipur for the term 2011-13 have been elected today.
Accordingly, Senior Advocate N Kumarjit Singh of Keishampat Mutum Leirak has been elected the president of the Association without any contest while Advocate Ch Dhananjoy Singh and Advocate Roshnipiba have been elected respectively as vice president and secretary.
Talking to The Sangai Express, the newly elected president senior Advocate N Kumarjit said that his first and foremost priority is to ensure establishment of a separate High Court of Manipur.
He pointed out that in accordance to Article 214 of the Constitution, there should be High Court in each States.
However, there has been no High Court of Manipur even after 40 years of attaining Statehood.
Moreover, in other States of India, there is one District & Session Judges in every revenue district.
But in case of Manipur, there is only two District & Session Judges, namely Manipur East and Manipur West.
Over and above this, there is the need for 3/4 Magistrate and Civil Courts in each sub-divisions.
In the absence of such facilities, all the litigants are being compelled to come to Imphal resulting in waste of money and pending cases.
The newly elected president further assured that he would work for ensuring setting up one District & Session Judge in each district so as to ensure justice at the doorstep of every litigants and redressal of public grievances to remove the communication gap between the Judiciary and the public.
