Bolstered by the joining of former NCP general secretary of Lamlai Kendra Kh Ibomcha and Pradhan of Tellou Chana Soibam Savita with 4000 supporters, MPP president Dr L Chandramani today declared that the Moirang by election which will see a straight fight between the MPP and the Congress will be a contest between the Congress led Government and the people of Manipur.
Briefing media persons at the party office today, Chandramani said that the latest development will certainly give a boost to the prospect of the MPP in the by election scheduled on December 27 .
Stating that it has sought the help and support of other political parties, Chandramani hailed the announcement of the BJP that it would support the MPP in the by election.
A written intimation has also been sent to NCP State president Radhabinod Koijam seeking the support of his party, said Chandramani and expressed optimism that the NCP will respond positively.
Former Union Minister Th Chaoba who was present at the media briefing said that Manipur needs a change and added that the Moirang by election will show that the people are against the Congress led Government.
Supplementing Chaoba, MPP MLA O Joy said that it is the public who should be the harbinger of change.
The political parties can only give hints but the real change should be effected by the public, he said and added that change can be brought in the administration structure, administrative reforms, policy and programme , land reform etc.
The veteran MPP leader also expressed hope that the NCP would respond positively.
Meanwhile the nomination papers of both the Congress and the MPP candidates were cleared during scrutiny today.
