IGAR (S) celebrates Ningol Chakkouba

As a tribute to Manipuri women whose outstanding qualities and courage are well known across the world, IGAR (South) celebrated Ningol Chakkouba festival at its Mantripukhri headquarters today wherein womenfolk from various walks of life and communities of the State were invited.
According to a press release of PRO IGAR (S), Maj Gen Virendra Singh, VSM extended a traditional welcome to the Ningols and the women folk offered 'Athenpot' to the rank and file of the IGAR (S) .
The event commenced with lighting of lamp by Padmashree Ksh Thouranishabi Devi, K Pishak Devi, Asha Wangnam, N Tungnung and Farida Begum.
The cultural programme during the occasion witnessed performances by various renowned artists from the State, including musical tributes by Jasmine Leivon, performance by Voice of Symphony and vocal performance by Mandakini Devi .
Prominent Ningols addressed the audience conveying their gratitude and appreciation on behalf of their communities to the Assam Rifles for partaking in their customs and traditions and organising the function.
29 women achievers from different fields were felicitated by Maj Gen Virendra Singh, it said .
Maj Gen Virendra Singh, in his message appreciated the invaluable contribution of the Manipuri women in all walks of life and added that it was an honour to host the Ningols .
He appealed to the Ningols to continue their inimitable role of maintaining peace, development and harmony in the society .
The General Officer emphasised that the State is undergoing a positive transformation and in this regard women can make immense difference .
The event was conducted in true Manipuri tradition with everyone eating the traditional Manipuri meal on plantain leaves and the Assam Rifles Officers and men attired in Pheijoms serving the Ningols, the release added.
