Ukhrul, April 19 2020:
Flash rain accompanied by strong wind has blown away roof along with sidewall of World War I Tangkhul Naga Labour Corps Association (WWI-TNLCA) office constructed at Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNZL) building complex at Wino Bazar, Ukhrul.
The windstorm destroyed office properties worth lakhs of rupees including computer sets, printer, research papers, files, and stationeries preserved in the office.
According to the reports of the secretary of WWITNLCA Zanyo, the heavy windstorm of Friday night has blown away the whole roof of the office building to at least 20 metres.
Subsequently, the rainwater also wetted all the confidential documents preserved in the office room and were all spoilt, which was a great treasure of the association.
He further mentioned that, WWITNLCA, being a non-profit organisation, rebuilding the office building would be a great economic burden for the members.
On the other hand, Moirang Kendra COVID 19 Relief Fund has provided relief materials and monetary aid to 17 households under Moirang Assembly Constituency whose properties were destroyed by the strong wind that the swept through the State recently.
The relief materials which include tin sheets, rice (25kg) and other edible items along with a cash of Rs 1,000 were given to each select household affected by the wind by the committee which was formed under the aegis of Moirang AC MLA, P Sharatchandra.
