Commandos gunnned down two suspected under-ground activists in Imphal East

Imphal, January 18, 2012:
Police commandos gunned down two suspected under-ground activists on a village road leading to Uran Chiru MAASI complex, under Irilbung police station in Imphal East district today.
Ten bombs including three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and a .32 pistol were recovered from the slain persons.
According to police sources, a joint team of Imphal East and Imphal West district police commandos rushed to the area on getting a specific information about movements of underground elements there.
As soon as the team reached the spot, a gunbattle broke out with the commando team and the UGs coming in a Maruti van (MN-01X/1004) from the opposite direction on the village road that leads to MAASI complex at around 2.30 pm.
A UG cadre died on the side of the road when he tried to flee the van while another cadre was slain inside the vehicle, the source added.
One .32 pistol, three IEDs and seven Chinese grenades were also found inside the van.
The commando team immediately called in police bomb experts and retrieved the explosives.
All the IEDs were fitted with RDX cakes, remote circuit boards, electronic detonators and dry cell batteries.
The three IEDs weighed around three and half kgs.
All the ten bombs were exploded at a nearby safe place.
The bodies of the unidentified UG cadres are deposited at JNIMS morgue.
