Mother of a 21-year-old youth, who has been arrested by the troops of 12 Bihar Regiment on the charge of being a member of KCP (MC), has claimed innocence of her son.
Speaking to reporters, S Sanayai said that her son S Tondonba of Leitanpokpi has been staying at the house of her elder sister at Malom Awang Leikai since past one and half years to run a passenger autorickshaw service.
Claiming that the charges levelled against her son are baseless, Sanayai urged the authority concerned to release Tondonba at the earliest.
General secretary of Youth Welfare Club, Malom, L Ranjan said that Tondonba was detained by some personnel of 12 Bihar Regiment in civies near their post at Malom when he returned home at around 4.50 pm on December 8 .
Ranjan added that Malom locals saw Tondonba was later taken inside their post by the troops along with his autorickshaw.
After some time, Tondonba was again taken in a Gypsy by some personnel in plain clothes towards Imphal, he added.
However, the troops denied Tondonba's arrest although Malom locals protested at the gate of 12 Bihar Regiment post demanding his release the whole night.
The next morning, Tondonba informed his family over the phone that he was lodged at Patsoi police station on the charge of being a member of KCP (MC), the general secretary added.
When his family met Tondonba at the police station, he told them that he was photographed with a pistol and beaten up severely asking him to confess that he is a member of KCP (MC) .
L Ranjan further said although 12 Bihar had denied Tondonba's arrest when they enquired about him at their post at Malom, a statement published on the newspapers has claimed that they arrested the youth with arms and ammunition from Takyel on December 8 .
