Imphal, February 12 2019:
Nine political parties have decided to approach the Supreme Court in case CAB 2016 is passed in the Rajya Sabha or the same is promulgated in the form of an Ordinance.
Speaking to media persons on behalf of the nine parties at Irabot Bhavan today, CPI State Secretary Laishram Sotinkumar said that the Bill would be tabled definitely in the Rajya Sabha in the coming days even though it could not be tabled today as indicated by the statements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and other BJP leaders on the Bill.
Even if the Bill is defeated in the Rajya Sabha, the NDA Government may promulgate it in the form of an Ordinance before the Lok Sabha election as BJP is obsessed with the idea of Hindutva and the vision to create a Hindu Nation, Sotinkumar said.
Quoting CPI MP D Raja, Sotinkumar said that some BJP MPs approached Opposition parties not to oppose the Bill.
Opposition parties have already agreed to fight the Bill in one voice in the Rajya Sabha, he said.
If the Bill is somehow passed or promulgated as an Ordinance, CPI and eight other parties will go to the Supreme Court, Sotinkumar said.
Chief Minister N Biren's appeal to the people to analyse the Bill minutely and his claim that the Bill would not harm Manipur indicate that he supports the Bill, he continued.
