Mass rally cum public meet on VAW held

Kanggui, September 21 2013 :
A mass rally cum public meeting on violence against women and children was jointly organised by Rural Youth Development Centre and Women and Child Welfare Association, Kanggui at Vocational Training Centre here today.
Haokholien Guite, local MDC graced the meeting as the chief guest while M Sobita, Secretary WAD and Dr Priyadarshini M Gangte attended the programme as resource persons.
The mass rally was flagged off by Chonkam Kipgen, Chairman Kanggui Town Committee at VTC Kanggui near Inspection Bungalow, Kanggui.
The rally dominated by students proceeded towards IT Road and took the main road of the NH-2 and back to the VTC where a public meeting was held.
Members of Kanggui Town Committee, Kanggui Women Welfare Organisation, NWU, Nepali Mothers' Association, Kalapahar and other civil bodies also attended the public meeting.

Speaking at the occasion, Haokholien Guite emphasised on the important of dress code for women and children to avoid sexual harassment.
Dr Priyadarshini Gangte stressed on the significance of moral and ethics while saying that women should possess good and respectable moral and value ethics to avoid violence.
"To make a new and better society women need to be educated", said Dr PM Gangte while adding women attitude should be respectable.
She also encouraged the women congregates to be a responsible person in family, society and for the nation.
"There is no security for the pillar of the Nation", noted M Sobita while adding that security in the State seems only for the Govt and not for the general public particularly for the women.
She pointed out that 22 rape cases have been officially reported till August this year alone in the State.
There are many such case as well as other crimes against women and children that went unreported.
While encouraging the women and children to empowered themselves, Sobita stated that women empowerment lies within the person itself.
She also shared some tips to the students who took part in the rally and the meeting to avoid violence and crimes against women and children.
