Health and Family Welfare Minister Jayantakumar resigns

In a major political development following formation of the BJP-led coalition Govern-ment in the State, Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayantakumar submitted his resignation letter to Chief Minister N Biren yesterday.
Jayantakumar was elect-ed from Keishamthong Assembly Constituency on National People's Party (NPP) ticket in the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
According to sources, Jayantakumar in his resignation letter mentioned about the interference upon his authority as a Minister.
Of the four NPP MLAs who were elected from their respective constituencies in the election, one was given the post of Deputy Chief Minister while the remaining three were given Cabinet berths.
Notably, Jayantakumar took part in a function held at Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat today as the chief guest.
He also participated in a felicitation function held in Keishamthong AC later in the evening.
Speaking to media persons after attending the function held at Medical Directorate, Jayantakumar confirmed that he had submitted his resignation letter to the CM who is out of station.
He said that developments over his resignation will be known once the CM returns to the State.
Talking to this daily over telephone, president of NPP State unit, Thangminlen Kipgen said that CM Biren is expected to return to the State on April 17 but it is still not clear what will unfold after the return of the CM.
He added that even though Jayentakumar submitted his resignation letter the latter will be referred as a Minister till approval is given to the resignation letter.
