24 hrs bandh affects normal life

Imphal, July 13 2018:
The 24 hours State wide general strike imposed by Socialist Students' Union of Manipur (SSUM), Proletarian Feminist Movement Manipur (PoFM) and Socialist Women Association (SWA) immensely affected normal life in the State capital today.
The 24 hours general strike was imposed in the State demanding that Manipur's land should not be ceded to Myanmar, to produce a Bill to protect the indigenous people in the public domain before producing the same on the floor of the State Assembly, to provide justice to weightlifter Sanjita Chanu and to provide proper reasons for transfer and posting of Government teachers by the State Government.
Due to the general strike, all the major business establishments, cinema halls, petrol pumps, Government and private educational institutions remained closed.
Inter-State bus services and other light passenger vehicle services coming from other parts of the State suspended service and only a few private vehicles could be seen plying along the road in Imphal city.
The State's biggest commercial centre Paona Keithel, Thangal Keithel and the three Ima Keithels also remained closed during the general strike.
The attendance of Government employees in their respective offices also remained low today.
The effect of the general strike was also seen at Singjamei to MU road, Pishumthong, Imphal-Ukhrul road and other important roads of the State as from the morning onward bandh supporters came out from their respective localities and blocked movement of vehicles in their area and closed down shops in their respective localities.
A large number of police personnel were also seen deployed on major roads and important junctions of the State capital to prevent any kind of untoward incidents.
There are no reports of any unwanted incident during the 24 hours general strike till the time of filing this report.
