Imphal, September 13:
Under their Outreach Campaign to Zeliangrong villages of Senapati district, the Zeliangrong Students' Union, Senapati Zone reportedly observed that the Zeliangrong people in Senapati were much neglected both by the State Government and the District Administration.
A press release issued by ZSU Senapati Zone noted that the most basic infrastructure such as school, water supply, roads, electricity, health care facilities etc were in pathetic conditions in the Zeliangrong villages.
Most of the inter-village roads such as Tumphung-Kanem-Chaka road, Oklong-Makuilongdi road, Makui-Tapan-Harup-Chawangkening road were all in such deplorable shapes that every commuter, young and old alike have to move with a walking stick.
In these Zeliangrong villages, almost all school building have become dilapidated with a handful of teachers and in some schools, there was not a single teacher.
Water supply facilities were non-existent in these villages.
In addition to the dilapidated condition of the PHSC building at Thonglang, its premises has been under occupation of Assam Rifles since 10 years back.
Despite repeated appeals and memoranda to the Ministers/MLAs concerned, the AR continues to occupy the PHSC as there has been no initiative from the civil authority to redress the woes of the villagers, lamented the ZSU.
While urging upon the State Government as well as the District Administration (DRDA) to look into the plight of the Zeliangrong villages, the ZSU appealed to all the people and employees to work with sincerity and dedication.
Saying that it will keep strict vigil, ZSU warned that befitting action will be taken if any negligence or discrepancy is detected.
As for the construction of Thonglang-Senapati road under PMGSY, the work is far from satisfactory, the ZSU observed.
It further asked the Department concerned not to issue any bill before spot verification of the work progress together with local people.
The Zeliangrong Students' Union has also appealed to all armed organisations not to make any monetary demand from contractors/Department in public interest so that the contract works can be executed properly.
The ZSU also asked the authority concerned to select only qualified Anganwadi workers and helpers through an open DPC.
The student body also accused the State Govt of being bias.
It noted that Govt has failed to provide any relief assistance to the people of Irang area whose standing crops and paddy were destroyed by devastating hailstorm last year.
Appreciating the deep concern shown by the Chief Minister for the flood affected people, the ZSU conveyed their hope that the Chief Minister will show similar concern for the Zeliangrong villages of Senapati district.
