Even as an individual was lynched on the alleged charges of stealing a Yamaha motorbike, Imphal West police personnel arrested two persons reported to be the real culprits in the same case.
Seven other suspects are currently in police custody while another accused is likely to be arrested tomorrow.
Mention may be made that one Moirangthem Akomcha alias Ibomcha (30) from Khangabok Cherapur was lynched at near Kakwa Laiphrakpam Leikai on February 6 evening, on the charge that he had stolen the motorbike.
An Imphal West police team under the supervision of its SP, S Ibocha picked up the two accused from their homes today at around 10.The two have been identified as Huidrom Nongdairemba (31) s/o (L) H Matum and Laishram Ibungo (21) s/o L Indramani.
Both are from Kakwa Laiphrakpam Leikai.
Police sources said the third accused is likely to be picked up tomorrow as preliminary interrogation of the two had already revealed identity of the person.
In unrelated development, personnel of the same police station picked up eight persons, including two women today evening and charged them under Public Gambling Act.
The eight were hauled up for indulgence in gambling at he residence of one Irom Memma in Moirangkhom.
