Imphal, December 29 2016:
The Silver Jubilee Celebration of Imphal Book Fair, 2016, organised under the aegis of State Central Library, Dept of Art and Culture and Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata, wrapped up today.
Th Chitra Devi (Director, Universities and Higher Education), Dr K Sushila Devi (Director, Art and Culture Department) and Th Ibomcha Sharma (Principal, DM College of Commerce) took part in the closing ceremony held at DM College Commerce ground.
Speaking at the event, chief guest Th Chitra said that the State should be proud for hosting the book fair for the past 25 years and that this fair will help to guide the people, particularly the young children, towards a positive direction.
She urged the people to extend support to the fair as many rare and hard to get books are made available to the people at the fair and at very low prices and thus is a boon to readers, authors and students.
As the State does not have big book stores compared to other Indian States, this fair is the only portal through which the people can get the opportunity .
Th Ibomcha said that there is a problem with the whole system because people do not want to use Government transport, schools and hospitals but still run after Government jobs.
"In order to fix this, we must gather knowledge from the myriad of books available around us and not confine ourselves only to the books prescribed by the college or school", he added.
