Discourse on future of Manipur held

Even though the Government and other organisations claimed to work for the people, they do not know the yearning, aspiration and wishes of the people for whom they are claiming to work for, said MLA RK Anand.
He was speaking during the inaugural function of a one-day discourse on the future of Manipur organised by the Freedom Research Foundation at Manipur Press Club today.
RK Anand said the State Government turned a deaf ear to the wishes and aspirations of the people pertaining to issues like ensuring basic rights, the cry for protection of territorial integrity, right to live, immigrant issue.
The Government seems to wake up only when a mass movement is coming up, Anand said while adding that the people should be granted their rightful demands and claims without any delay.
In order to discuss the future of Manipur, then the conflict issue besetting the State should first be settled, MLA RK Anand said.
Asserting that social security of the mass is a must in order to ensure a meaningful life, RK Anand also stressed on the need to improve handloom production for sustenance.
Anand further observed that the people are deprived of meaningful participation in some fronts.
The function was also graced by MLA Surchandra while Dr Lokendra Arambam moderated the technical session.
Speaking as the resource person, Prof Gangmumei Kamei said Manipur is not a failed State but has a weak government.
In order to ensure bright future of Manipur, the government should be strong, he opined while adding that every organ of the government should be strengthened.
Prof Ksh Bimola said in order to facilitate a discourse on the future of the State, the problems faced by the State in the past and present must be identified as discussed as future implies the present.
She observed that the people of the State live for around 30 years without any security.
Stating that instances of violation of children's and woman's rights increased day by day, Bimola also maintained that social norms and systems have shattered.
Among others, Dr Chinglen Maisnam; A Mobi, AMWJU president; and Dr RK Ranjan have also presented speech at the occasion.
Various leaders of social organisations including the chairperson of Freedom Research Foundation, RK Ranendrajit attended the programme.
