Kayakalp soon to be launched in State

'Kayakalp'�an initiative for awards to public health facilities � is set to be launched in the State soon.
The scheme was launched in the country on May 15 by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda.
The main objective of 'Kayakalp' is to promote and encourage every public health facility to work towards standards of excellence in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, stated Director, State Health Society NRHM Manipur Dr O Ibomcha in a press briefing today in his office chamber.
The initiative do not apply only to physical cleanliness, but to develop and put in place systems and procedures for activities such as bio-waste disposal or protocol etc.
The initiative is aimed at building confidence of the users in public health facilities, provide quality service and encourage team work, he said.
He urged various stakeholders, individuals, NGOs, voluntary organisations and others to participate in this endeavour and share the responsibility for cleanliness of the health facility.
This initiative will provide an opportunity and incentive to strengthen inter-sectoral coordination in improving health systems at the State level, he added.
Dr O Ibomcha further said that the objectives of the award scheme are to promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control practices in public health care facilities, to give incentive and recognize such public health care facilities that show exemplary performance in adhering to standard protocol of cleanliness and infection control, to inculcate a culture of ongoing assessment and peer review of performance related to hygiene, cleanliness and sanitation, to create and share sustainable practices related to improve cleanliness in public health facilities linked to positive health outcomes.
Further, he informed that five awards will be given under this scheme�Best two district hospitals in each State (best district hospital in small States), best two community health centres/sub district hospitals (limited to one in small States) and one primary health centre in every district.
It may be mentioned here that the State has 85 PHCs, 17 CHCs and three sub-district hospitals and seven district hospitals.
Based on the set criterion, prize winners will receive a cash award with a citation.
First rank and second rank awardees at district level will get Rs 50 lakh and Rs 20 lakh respectively while Rs 15 lakh and Rs 10 lakh are proposed for community health centres/sub district hospitals for the same criteria and winner at primary health centre will get Rs 2 lakh under this scheme.
Commendation certificate plus cash award would also be given to such facilities that score over 70 pc, but do not make it to the list of the top two in a particular year, which is proposed for Rs 3 lakh for district hospital, Rs 1 lakh for community health centres/sub district hospitals and Rs 50, 000 for primary health centres.
The awards will be distributed based on the performance of the facility on parameters like sanitation and hygiene, infection control, hospital upkeep, waste management, community participation.
Assessment will be done in sequential manner through the internal assessment followed by peer assessment and then external assessment which will be monitored and conducted by the State Quality Assurance Committee.
The committee is headed by the Principal Secretary (Health) as the chairman along with Director of Health Services and other specialist doctors.
