Minister Govindas ianugurates shopping complex, exhibition

Shopping complex at Panthoibi Emporium which was constructed by Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation (MHHDC) Ltd and exhibition cum sales in credit basis at Panthoibi Arcade, Wangkhei were today inaugurated by Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
Speaking at the programme, Minister Govindas Konthoujam said that the shopping complex is being inaugurated ahead of the Sangai Festival which will begin from November 21 so as to allow tourists as well as visitors to get access to wide varieties of handloom and handicrafts products of the State.
The shopping complex has three showrooms of which one is a handicrafts showroom while the remaining two are handloom showrooms.
The showrooms will enable the artisans and weavers to exhibit their products and generate sustainable income which in turn will also contribute to the State's economy, he added.
Minister Govindas Konthoujam also inaugurated exhibition cum sales on credit basis at Panthoibi Arcade, Wangkhei.
The Minister stated that weavers can generate income like other successful businessmen.
The exhibition is being held to motivate the weavers to venture into entrepreneurship.
Weavers who possess yarn passbook issued by the National Handloom Development Corporation can get various benefits.
Weavers can also get yarn on credit basis.
Weavers should be able to produce diversified products according to market on demand so as to earn sustainable income.
Earlier, handloom products of Manipur were transported by air to Panthoibi Emporium in Delhi and Kolkata.
The demand has remarkably increased therefore the products are now transported through truck freight, Minister Govindas Konthoujam said.
Commerce and Industries Principal Secretary L Lakher and Additional Director (Handloom) K Lamlee Kamei were also present at both the inauguration programmes.
