Driver kidnapped, released

Kidnapping and extortions of drivers along National Highway 2 within Sadar Hills continue even with the warnings and cautions by civil bodies and SoO groups like Kuki National Front.
Early today morning at around 4:30 am, a tourist bus driver identified as Sanatomba was kidnapped by unidentified armed miscreants in civil dress along National Highway 2 between Kalapahar and Keithelmanbi.
He was travelling towards the Imphal from Dimapur, our correspondent reports.
The driver's assistant reportedly drove the bus after the incident and reached Imphal safely.
The vehicle that was registered with the Network Travels, Imphal plied between Imphal and Guwahati.
The district Additional SP in collaboration with the Assam Rifles personnel launched a search operation after they received information of the incident from Kangpokpi police station.
The search operation, led by K Lhouvum, Additional SP, Sadar Hills, was conducted around Kalapahar and Keithelmanbi areas for nearly 4 hours.
Thanks to the swift action of the district police and AR personnel, the abducted driver was reportedly released at around 8 am near Keithelmanbi.
The Network Travels at Imphal, when contacted by the district police confirmed that the driver reached home safely after his release.
Sadar Hills women bodies had earlier held a protest rally at Kangpokpi denouncing the increasing cases of kidnappings, extortions, harassment of traders including women and other anti-social activities along the National Highway.
