Imphal, June 14 2016:
Even as the economic blockade is underway in "tribal areas", the United Naga Council (UNC) has announced today to impose a 24 hour "total shut-down in Naga areas" of Mani- pur from the midnight of June 17 .
The United Naga Council took this decision in a meeting today to show its resentment against the "continuous sup-pression, subjugation and discrimination" by the "com-munal" Government of Mani- pur against the "Naga tribals".
At the same time, the shutdown is also to demand that the "Framework Agreement" sign-ed between the Govern-ment of India and the NSCN-IM is brought to a conclusion at the earliest.
The UNC urged the Government of India to exhibit "political will" and solve the Naga political issue at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the UNC has cautioned the Manipur Government that if the latter attempts to use its force against the tribal people imposing the economic blockade in tribal areas, "it will be akin to inviting further troubles" .
