The State Government handed over the case to CBI after 'Tehelka' magazine published tell-tale photographs of the incident.
Later, CBI submitted charge sheets against the then City Police station OC Y Munal and eight other police personnel of Imphal west district including Th Herojit.
The case was transferred from Imphal West Sessions Court to Imphal East Sessions Court in September 2010 and the submission of prosecution witnesses began on January 5, 2012 .
In November 2014, the trial case was again transferred to Sessions Court, Imphal West.
