20th Inpui Karing Ngei festival celebrated

The 20th Inpui Karing-Ngei (Festival of the Living), the biggest traditional festival of the Inpui Tribe, was organised by the Youth Club and Village Authority of Nungtek-1 at its Church complex, Noney district, today.
The programme was attended by Napolean Ruangmei, DFO, Noney; Adai Dangmei, Chairman, VACLA; Longvah, Assistant Commandant 86 BN CRPF; Major Shem Khumba 2nd in command, Rashtriya Rifles and Gailiangpou Gonmei, social worker as presidium members.
The Karing-Ngei is the biggest festival of the Inpui Naga Tribe which is celebrated every year on 12th January.
The festival is traditionally celebrated after Tataak, a ritualistic tribute/homage conducted for the departed souls at the end of the year.
The festival is celebrated annually in all Inpui villages of Haochong subdivision, Tamenglong district; Waphong, Makuilongdi, Senapati district; Tamphagei, Changangei, Yurembam, Sagolband, Pantilong in Imphal West district.
The day-long festival began with the hoisting of the celebration flag and lighting of sacred fire by the dignitaries and followed by Ho-Hoing (Thampei).
Cultural dances performed by Nungtek Students Union, Nungtek Youth Club, Nungtek Women Society, Sunday School Students and Choreography from Deborah & Party enthralled the audience.
Later, many traditional games and sports were also held.
