Imphal, December 07 2018:
As the cease work strike of the JNIMS Senior Residents resumed Wednesday, Ethno Heritage Council, HERICOUN has urged the State Government to bring amicable solution to the issue for uninterrupted services in the hospital in public interest.
Speaking to media persons at the office of the HERICOUN in Konung Mamang, Imphal today, its secretary general Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman said that proper functioning of JNIMS is vital and that the State Government should see that an agreement is reached with the agitating doctors before the issue is blown out of proportion.
Stating that HERICOUN have been appealing the senior residents of the hospital not to affect the various services essential in the agitation since it started in September, Surjitkumar urged the JNIMS authority and the State Government to meet the demands of the doctors if found legitimate.
The agitation, which started again Wednesday after it had returned to normal following assurance from the Chief Minister to fulfil the senior residents' demands on October 2, have serious toll on the health-care services the hospital is providing, he said.
It may be mentioned that the senior residents had launched the agitation denouncing open/direct recruitment of Assistant Professors.
The SRs have been demanding the JNIMS authority to absorb the non-regular senior residents on tenure basis or on deputation.
They have also been demanding career advancement policy or a service protection scheme for the MBBS senior residents, tutors, demonstrators/casual medical officers and lady medical officers.
JNIMS has 71 senior residents and of these, 35 are eligible for elevation to the post of Assistant Professor, according to senior residents.
Identifying general public as the victim in the cease work strike, Surjitkumar on behalf of HERICOUN appealed the JNIMS authority and the State Govt to convert the assurances given to the senior residents into reality before the agitation have serious toll on the people.
"The agitation has the capacity to turn into a full blown issue.
There is possibility that patients' parties/general public, out of frustration on being denied medical attentions required, may take up agitation against the JNIMS authority and vandalise the hospital in worst case," he said.
Deeply concerned with the issue and possible impact it would have on the public, he urged the JNIMS authority and State Govt to take the matter seriously and bring solution at the earliest to avoid any unwanted incidents.
