Imphal, August 03 2011:
A felicitation programme for S Jiban, who secured a bronze medal in the 2nd World Vovinam Championship held in Vietnam, was organised at Keirao today.
The event was held with social worker N Itomba Meetei and G Gourakishore Sharma as the chief guest and president respectively while ex-chairman of Phunal Maring village A Angphun Maring and Y Inaobi Devi were the guests of honour.
It is informed that S Jiban was among seven players from Manipur in the 9-member Indian contingent for the world championship which was held from July 27 to 31 in Ho-Chi-Min City of Vietnam, from where the martial art form is said to have originated.
All five players from Manipur won bronze medal in their respective events.
Inaobi expressed gratitude to Y Inaobi Devi for her continuous support financially, and N Itomba for his moral and material support.
While regretting that no medal winner from Keirao assembly constituency were ever felicitated inspite of excelling in various competitions, both in the national and international level competitions, Jiban observed that had such a talented sportsperson was from the neighbouring AC of Andro he or she might have either been awarded in a befitting manner or provided a secured job.
