Act of terrorism, says Gaikhangam

Imphal, August 03 2011:
It is a meaningless peace and a purposeless truce pact if one of the parties continue to kill the people and perpetrate violence.
It is better to revoke such a ceasefire, MPCC (I) president Gaikhangam has stated.
Talking to mediapersons at Congress Bhavan here today, Gaikhangam strongly condemned the bomb blast at Sangakpham Bazar on August 1 that claimed the lives of five people and caused injuries to eight others as an act of terrorism and said that he supports the statement given by the Chief Minister in connection with the incident.
Observing that there is already an understanding among the Central leaders of the Congress on ensuring strict compliance with the ground rules of the ceasefire, Gaikhangam informed that a report on the incident would also be submitted to the party's high command.

Describing the bomb blast as an act of terrorism and crime against humanity, Gaikhangam stated firmly that all those who are behind the blast do not deserve mercy and they should be given befitting punishment in accordance with the laws of the land.
With regard to the enforcement of economic blockade along the National Highways and its resultant violence over the demand for upgradation of Sadar Hills into a full-fledged revenue district, the MPCC (I) observed that there is nothing wrong in pursuing the demand democratically, but imposition of bandh/blockade and resorting to violence is unfortunate.
