Imphal, July 23:
Even as the United Naga Council (UNC) has elected its full-fledged president on July 21, the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) has said that since the election of July 21 at Komlathabi was "unconstitutional, null and void, the result of the election of the highest apex Naga organisation could not be released in the local newspapers till date for general information".
The Zeliangrong Union (AMN) stated that a "complaint was raised on July 21, 2008 on the day of election at Chandel (Komlathabi) that election of UNC without considering the objection raised by the ZU is incomplete and violating the basic objective of the UNC.
The election Commission under the influence of certain individual conducted an unconstitutional election".
Harping down on the past events, the ZU-AMN claimed that it had made a complaint dated 26th February 2008 to the UNC for not inviting the ZU (AMN) in the UNC functions and meetings.
"The 83-year-old ZU(AMN) has been an original component unit of UNC since its inception on April 23, 1981," further claimed the Zeliangrong Union while adding, "It is an issue before every right thinking individual to ponder and ask ourselves whether is it possible for any organisation to commission or omission the original component unit of the UNC without a due process/proceedings of the meeting and which is also to be approved by the assembly".
The ZU-AMN then stated that the credibility of the UNC and its basic objectives needed to be questioned.
"The far sighted Naga leaders whose vision of unifying the Nagas under a common platform is threatening by the whims and fancy of certain Naga leaders," alleged the Zeliangrong Union.
The statement then claimed that the above matter had been put up in the UNC meeting of June 27, 2008 by a team of ZU consisting of ZU former president D Athuibo (former MLA), ZU former president Dm Nganthonang ( former chairman Tamenglong district council and former vice-president Naga Hoho), ZU former president D Dikambui ( former chairman, Tamenglong district council), ZU vice presidents and secretaries, chairmen of its constituent units and vice chairman and general secretary of Zeliangrong Cultural Council attended the special meeting of the UNC.
The ZU team also has pointed out that under the UNC constitution, the ZU which is the original component unit of the UNC has the right to nominate representatives to participate in the ensuing election of NC.
"And the persons nominated by ZU should only be allowed to contest or vote in the UNC election," asserted the ZU-AMN.
The statement also said that the complaint addressed to the "Returning Officer, Election Commission of the UNC" was submitted on 1st July 2008 and a copy was also handed over to some of the "National Workers" for necessary information.
Subsequently, the election of UNC was postponed indefinitely, added the ZU-AMN statement.
Another complaint was raised on July 21, 2008 without considering the objection raised by the ZU is incomplete and violating the basic objective of the UNC.
