Imphal, August 06: Five activists of different armed organisations have been arrested from numerous locations of the State in the past three days including one KCP member 'overpowered' this morning.

Parading the KCP member before mediapersons at office room of Imphal West commando OC, SDPO RK Jhalajit Singh said a joint team of Imphal West police commandos and troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry arrested the cadre during a frisking duty at the tri-junction of Haobam Marak Keisham Leikai and Lourembam Leikai this morning.

The cadre has been identified as Arambam Abung alias Nanao (26) s/o Iseihanba alias Chaoba of Langdum Maning Leikai was 'overpowered' and arrested without a single shot being fired and from whom a 9 mm pistol with a magazine and four rounds have been seized, while three of his accomplices managed to escape one, Jhalajit said.

On Abung's revelation the escaped trio had been identified as the KCP group's activists namely Yaiphaba of Keirao, Thoiba and Prem from Heirangoithong.

The KCP activists were at the specified area in connection with a demand of Rs 15 lakh from a local resident, the SDPO added.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by SP (IE) Th Radheshyam informed of the district's commando teams and para-military force personnel netting four UG activists belonging to the PULF (Azad), UNLF, PREPAK and KNA organisations.

The UNLF cadre identified as Keisham Premjit alias Nanao alias Yotchabi Meitei (31) s/o (L) K Kulla Singh of Kongba Laishram Leikai was nabbed from his locality by a joint team of police commandos and troops of 32 Assam Rifles at around 9 a today.

The PULF (Azad) namely Md Sher Khan alias Khan (27) s/o Md Mayang Khalik of yangbi Khunou was arrested from Naharup bridge at around 5 am yesterday.

Imphal East district Cdos also nabbed a KNA cadre identified as Angshong Khoibu (20) s/o Shelmun Khoibu of Biyang village Khoibu Centre from RIMS A-Block at around 10 pm yesterday.

A PREPAK sympathiser namely Heisnam Romesh alias Machu Singh (34) s/o H Kulla Singh of Keirenphabi Mamang Leikai was also arrested by a team of Imphal East police commandos from Lamlong bazar.

Romesh had been working under one Chingkhei.
