Imphal, July 20:
Putting the record straight, in the backdrop of the indefinite bandh called by the Churachandpur District Students Union to protest the non-release of the dists quota of BPL and AAY rice, FCS Minister Y Erabot today said that the rice quota was held up as the money was deposited with the agencies without the knowledge of the FCS authority.
Work is underway to adjust the amount deposited with the agencies so that the rice quota for Churachandpur for the months of July and August can be released soon, he added.

Following the damages inflicted on a bus yesterday by bandh supporters, the Churachandpur Road Bus Owners and Workers Association have suspended service from today leading to inconveniences to the people.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Erabot said that the money for the rice was deposited in the account of the transport agencies at the SBI branch at Thangal bazar.
The money was deposited without the knowledge of the FCS, said Erabot and added that the amount was not deposited during the scheduled time laid down.
The FCS has already decided to adjust the amount deposited accordingly and the rest of the rice quota for Churachandpur district will be released during July and August.
According to the directives of the Centre, the price of the rice is fixed by the Food Corporation of India and the last date for the amount to be deposited as well as the time to lift the same from the FCS godown is the 25th of every month.
In case the rice could not be lifted during the set time, the same may be lifted the next month.
There is no question of losing the rice quota of one month, he added.
Informing that there is sufficient stock of rice at the godown, the Minister said and added since some DCs have failed to lift the rice quota from the godown, some of the food grains have become stale.
As the money meant for the rice is not always deposited on time, the FCS had to borrow money from other agencies to procure the same and at the moment a huge interest is being paid.
At the moment the FCS is paying a sum of Rs 9,221 per day as interest.
To streamline the functioning of the FCS, the officials have been instructed to draw up a series of rules whereby the transport contractors and agencies have to first obtain the permission of the FCS before depositing the money.
