Taking a dig at the Nagaland CM and his recent remarks at the Lui-Ngai-Ni festival held at Ukhrul, Gaikhangam said the demand for carving out Eastern Naga-land out of the existing State of Nagaland is very much alive.
As such, they should concentrate on resolving their own issues rather than interfering in the internal affairs of Manipur.
The Deputy Chief Minister also expressed strong disapprobation of the statement made by the Nagaland CM at the festival.
He said attempts to sow seeds of discord among different commu- nities of Manipur will be futile.
The Nagaland CM should have talked about building cultural heritage rather than poking into the internal matters of the State.
Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla was also invited to the festival but he did not comment on the issues of the State, Gaikhangam stated.
He appealed TR Zeliang to refrain from commenting on the issues of Manipur in the future.
Manipur has a very long and rich history but some other communities / States have no history of their own except fabricated ones.
Peace and honesty are vital for development one cannot do without the other.
Frequent imposition of bandhs and blockades are not just hindering developement, it is disrupting peace in the State.
The State Government has been working to develop both the hill and valley regions on equal footing.
It is aware of the fact that development should be all round and that building up only a portion of the State will not be called development.
The State Government designs to take up projects to develop roads, railways, bridges and water supply soon.
A sum of Rs 1000 crore have been sanctioned to construct shorter routes from Imphal to Tamenglong, he stated adding that the Government will need support from the people for all round development.
The Congress led Government has been maintaining the territorial integrity of the land.
Some people, however, point fingers at the party as if blind to the developmental works undertaken by the same.
The Deputy Chief Minister concluded his speech appealing the masses to support the Congress party in future.
Konthoujam SC MLA K Sarat, Yarou Bamdiar GP Member S Nabakumar, Yurembam GP Member Ch Bijenti, Moidangpok GP Pradhan Thokchom Gambhir, ward no 1 Moidangpok GP Member Laishram Keinaton Devi and ward no 2 Moidangpok GP Member Yengkhom Radha Devi also attended the inaugural function.
