Imphal, February 20 2016 : The State Level North East Games, organised by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports (DYAS) under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) scheme began today.

The opening function was graced by Consultant to the Government of Manipur Dr RK Nimai Singh (Retd IAS), Youth Affairs and Sports Director Dr Hamid P (IAS) and Manipur Olympic Association secretary Sunil Elangbam as presidium members.

On the opening day, W Manoranjan � Imphal East clinched a gold medal in the men's 1500 meters race.

He took 4:13.89 sec to reach the finish line while Md Iqbal Hussain � Thoubal and Sh Romesh � Imphal West finished on 4:14.69 sec and 4:19.77 sec respectively to claim the second and third positions respectively.

Hockey : Imphal West Chandel and Thoubal won in the men's hockey event.

In the first match, Imphal West humiliated Imphal East by a margin of 6 goals to one.

A brace each from Th Kingson (12th, 7th), M Dinachandra (16th, 43rd) and goals from Dollar Ksh and Th Deepu in the 6th and 53rd minute gave the six winning goals to the IW team.

On the other hand, Imphal East witnessed their lone goal from W Robinson in the 48th minute.

In another match, Chandel edged past Thoubal 4-3.Chandel witnessed their winning goals from Dipu (22nd, 30th) and Dhananjoy (40th, 46th).Strikes from Y Chinky (27th), M Purnajit (38th) and P Priyobarta (42nd) gave three goals to Thoubal.

In the women's group, Thoubal blanked Imphal East by a margin of 2 goals to nil.

L Bijita and Th Raina scored in the 19th and 24th minute for the winning team.

Football : In the men's football event, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Imphal East advanced.

In the first match, Churachandpur claimed a thrilling 4-3 victory against Imphal West.

Langoulen hit a treble in the 22nd, 37th and 49th minute while Phungalion contributed the fourth winning goal of Churachandpur in the 36th minute.

Imphal West on the other side saw Borish, Basant and Lokendrajit scoring a goal each in the 3rd, 30th and 70th minute.

In another match, Bishnupur beat Chandel 5-2.The winning goals of Bishnupur were scored by Naoton (18th, 31st), Newton (43rd), Momocha (58th) and Sony in the 41st minute.

Angpoum's strike in the 72nd minute and an own goal from Bishnupur's Samson in the 62nd minute gave two goals to Chandel.

In the third match, Ate K (54th, 57th, 64th) struck home a treble as Thoubal registered a convincing 5-1 win against Tamenglong.

The other two winning goals of Thoubal came though Suraj and Amarjit in the 61st and 79th minute respectively.

K Philips (76th) was the lone scorer of Tamenglong.

In the third fourth match today, Imphal West downed Ukhrul 4-1.Y Jileshore, Akbar Khan, Sailesh and N Boyboysana scored the four winning goals of IW in the 20th, 41st, 58th and 62nd minute while the consolation goal of Ukhrul was found by Simmei in the 51st minute.

Imphal East thrashed Senapati 6-0 in another match.

A brace each from Sh Robindro (48th, 61st), Jileshore (81st, 82nd) and a goal each from Akbar Khan and Vandon in the 16th and 69th minute gave the six winning goals to Imphal East.

In the women's group, Imphal West outclassed Churachandpur by a margin of 16 goals to nil.

Renaroy was the star player of Imphal West as she alone banged in seven goals in the 6th, 29th, 31st, 35th, 37th, 56th and 59th minute.

The other winning goals came from A Roja (4th, 32nd, 63rd), Victoria (14th, 47th), Ch Rita (43rd, 51st) and a goal each from Ng Bala and Ng Anibala in the 8th and 12th minute respectively.
